I had an awesome time chasing light and looking for compositions in the Al Qudra Desert just outside of Dubai. If you’ve never shot sand dunes before, here’s a few tips.
- Look for S curves in the dunes, interesting textures in the sand or lone subjects when framing your shots.
- Bring along a rain sleeve/cover to protect your camera from blowing sand. I also wouldn’t recommend changing lenses while you’re out there.
- Watch your step. You don’t want to ruin your composition by leaving footprints in pristine sand.
- In my opinion, the best times to shoot are just after sunrise or just before sunset. The low lying sun will provide a strong natural contrast.
